CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on approach that can create dramatic improvements in your life. It releases tension deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.

Your CST session takes place in a quiet, private setting. You remain fully clothed as you relax on a comfortable treatment table. Your therapist begins by performing a short, whole body evaluation, looking for areas of restrictions within your system, followed by gentle techniques to release any restrictions, help integrate the changes and restore healthy function of the affected areas.

What you experience from your own session is highly individual. The sessions are generally deeply relaxing, creating feelings of warmth or gentle pulsing in areas the therapist is working on.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a body-centered approach to treating PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).  SE aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies.

Each session is a guided exploration of our body's response to traumatic stress. With this exploration we can become aware of our patterns, what triggers these patterns, and ways to gently shake loose from our past and move more freely into our lives with clarity and ease.

Somatic Experiencing sessions can be combined with CranioSacral and Aquatic sessions or be received as a stand-alone seated treatment.

Aquatic Bodywork

Aquatic Bodywork sessions offer a unique blend of powerful healing modalities in a private pool heated to 97 degrees. Combining CranioSacral Therapy, SomatoEmotional Release,  Watsu®, Healing Dance, massage therapy, and more, each session is tailored to meet your specific needs.

Enveloped in body temperature water you are brought into a three dimensional world where movement is introduced. Dropping into a deeply relaxed, meditative state where healing happens, you will begin to release mental, emotional and physical holding as your body is guided through moments of movement and stillness.

Whether they come for resolution of physical or emotional pain, people often walk away from sessions feeling calm and at peace with a deeper sense of self.

Aquatic sessions are held year round in a private heated pool in Altadena. This pool in nested in a beautiful hillside garden thoughtfully maintained to support your healing experience.

I had the privilege of receiving CranioSacral Therapy from Michelle.  She is AMAZING.  From the moment I met Michelle, I instantly felt safe to be open and vulnerable.  I knew I was in good hands.  Michelle has a very calming presence.  I also was able to open up to her in deep and meaningful ways.  She was able to perceive what I needed and we went right to that place.  I believe she is a gifted healer.  I am so looking forward to doing an Aquatic Session with her!

I was doing some inner work and decided to try Cranial Sacral massage. So lucky to find Michelle. She is a gifted healer and intuitive massage therapist. I felt instantly at ease and in good hands. The experience was very peaceful and restorative. I had been carrying a lot of tension in my shoulders and throat that was released by the end. I felt a quiet internal vibe at the end that remained as an overall feeling of lightness and ease over the next few weeks. I'd highly recommend Michelle if you are interested in cranial sacral massage's physical and emotional benefits.

I just had THE MOST INCREDIBLE experience receiving an Aquatic Therapy session from Michelle Shandy Thornsberry.  Trust me when I say this is a must-do. Her gentle presence and masterful technique will leave you speechless with gratitude. If you're human, you need this work.

Michelle has been an immense healing force in my life. She creates a safe, grounding and supportive space that allows one to deeply receive her healing work. If you have not tried CranioSacral Therapy please reach out to Michelle for a truly expansive experience.

Michelle was recommended to me by another craniosacral therapist, and I am very grateful that I found her. I have met with her several times over a period of months doing both craniosacral and aquatic therapy sessions. She practices both therapies well, but I definitely have a bias toward the aquatic sessions! They are such a unique and amazing experience and not many people practice it! She is incredibly gentle, patient and soothing during our sessions and has supported me each step of the way toward inner healing. If you are looking for someone with a gentle, nonviolent approach, who is committed to helping others, and that holds a genuine demeanor, I would definitely recommend seeing her. I look forward to our continued work.
